“To be modern is not a fashion, it is a state. It is necessary to understand history, and he who understands history knows how to find continuity between that which was, that which is, and that which will be.

— Le Corbusier, 1930

Born July 5th 1980 in Walnut, California just east of Los Angeles, carpenter and custom furniture designer Adam Charles Nelson realized from an early age that architecture and design had up until recently always served as a portal to the transcendental. An astute observation that prompted the question, “When did we collectively renounce beauty for convenience?” Drawing largely from Art Deco, Modernism and Constructivism, Adam seeks to maximize comfort while inspiring and pushing visual perspective. Having noticed that over time the quality of furniture had diminished across the board, Adam felt compelled to create products that were as utilitarian as they were optically pleasing. The catalyst was the end result of a coffee table he custom designed and created for a friend in 2012. A minimalist in the truest sense, Adam holds true to the notion that waste is an excuse and no way to sustain. Making original pieces by taking used items and redesigning them in order to maintain sustainability and create legacy heirloom products, he spends much of his time contemplating his pieces, imagining a design and applying a unique method to each work.

Adam’s finesse with carpentry and furniture design spills over into a myriad of creative pursuits, including photography, classic car renovation and more recently an off-grid development in Southern California’s high desert. His relentless pursuit to innovate while living

minimally parallels the acceleration of the present time and gives homage to the indomitable seekers and doers of yesteryear. As artist and as man he must create constantly, it is in this way that he remains free.
